LIM SOON HOCK

Over 28 years of pastoral ministry Soon Hock has gone through the grind of being a full-time worker, pastoral staff, solo pastor and Senior Pastor (Georgetown Baptist Church, Penang, and PJ Evangelical Free Church, Petaling Jaya). Each phase has its own special points of learning and growth. This, and additionally, working together with like-minded pastors in Penang at strategic attempts at community and city transformation have caused Soon Hock to develop clear and deep convictions, processes for personal Christian and corporate church development, and philosophies of transformation at micro and macro levels.

In 2014 Soon Hock started Empowering Churches as a ministry to pastors and church leaders. His pastoral and leadership experience as the Senior Pastor of two medium-size churches have prepared and equipped him to come alongside fellow ministers to help them with the development and advancement of their churches.

In order to equip himself further for this role and ministry Soon Hock undertook training with the Society for Church Consulting (USA). In 2018, the Society awarded Soon Hock with its certification and recognised him as a Certified Church Consultant. Furthermore, in 2024 Soon Hock completed the degree of Doctor of Ministry with the Malaysia Baptist Theological Seminary. His project-dissertation focussed on the development of a church health diagnostic instrument which he uses for related church consultations. Soon Hock’s vision is not just to help churches by providing consultation services, but to raise up more church consultants in Malaysia; who will be able to help churches in their own denominations or vernacular groups: consultants who would be more denominational, and, ethnic and culturally-sensitive.
